At Upper Düden you can look out through the water from the cave. At Lower Düden you look from the coast towards the sea. Start with the right waterfall and a safe place to stand.
The contrast inside the cave
The cave can be dark against a bright exterior. On a phone, try tapping the bright water to set exposure and keep the camera steady. Wipe the lens regularly because fine spray can soften the picture. Take your time trying different frames without blocking the path.
From the coast and from a boat
The Lower Düden coastal viewpoint is different from the frontal view from a boat. From the coast, work with the cliff line, water and sea together. On a boat, consider motion and salt spray. The captain controls the approach, so a particular close-up composition cannot be guaranteed.
Keep the photograph within safe limits
You do not need to cross barriers or climb wet rocks. If using a tripod, keep the walking route clear. Do not assume drone flight is permitted; local site rules and aviation restrictions need separate checking. We also retain the source and licence details for the photographs in this guide.
Notes to take with you
- Keep the lens clean and protect your phone from spray
- Keep paths clear and stay behind barriers
- Distinguish a photograph’s season from current conditions
