Antalya Old Town to Duden Waterfalls

Choose a usable starting point in Kaleici

Kaleici is a neighbourhood of small streets and visitor attractions, not one vehicle pickup point. A hotel door inside the old town may not be the same place where a taxi, transfer vehicle or bus can conveniently meet you. Hadrian’s Gate is a useful public landmark for understanding the area, but agree on an accessible nearby street with your driver.

If you are using public transport, start the journey from where you will actually board. The walk out of the old town is part of the trip, especially with a stroller, luggage or in hot weather. Keep a screenshot of the meeting point or stop name so departure does not depend on describing a landmark over the phone.

Compare the two road journeys

Our representative OSRM car routes from Hadrian’s Gate to the public waterfall locations measured 10.3 km to Upper Duden and 9.5 km to Lower Duden on 6 September 2026. These are indicative road-network distances, not live traffic estimates or directions to a reserved parking space.

Upper Duden takes you inland towards Kepez. Lower Duden takes you towards the Çağlayan–Lara coast. Select the place according to the visit you want, then check a current route from your exact start. A small difference in kilometres is less important than arriving at the waterfall shown in the photograph that interested you.

Going by taxi or private transfer

A taxi is a straightforward option when you want to choose your departure time and spend as long as you wish at the park. Show the complete destination name rather than only saying “Duden”. For the cave, use “Yukarı Düden Şelalesi, Kepez”. For the sea view, use “Aşağı Düden Şelalesi, Çağlayan”.

Discuss whether the arrangement is a one-way ride, a return transfer or a driver waiting while you visit. These are different services and should not be compared as if they were the same price. For a return pickup, agree on the meeting point and how to contact the driver. Leave time to walk back to the vehicle from the actual viewpoint.

Using public transport

A public transport outing can suit a flexible day, but plan the complete journey rather than selecting a bus because a blog mentioned its number. Use a current journey planner and check local service information through Antalyakart. Confirm the arrival stop, the final walk and the return direction as well as the outward route.

Avoid assuming that a stop or service with a familiar city-centre name reaches both waterfall parks. Upper and Lower Duden are separate destinations. Save the route while you have a reliable connection, and check how you will pay before boarding. If the journey involves a change, leave enough time to identify the next stop without rushing.

A short outing from the old town

For a compact visit, choose one waterfall and leave the other for another day. A lower-waterfall outing can focus on the public viewpoints and an open coastal path, followed by a return to the old town for the rest of your city visit. An upper-waterfall outing can focus on the park and cave, then return before the afternoon becomes crowded with extra plans.

Allow 60–90 minutes for an unhurried upper visit or 45–90 minutes around the lower viewpoints, plus transport and breaks. Those are editorial visiting budgets, not opening hours. If you have a reservation or departure later in the day, work backwards from that commitment and choose the simpler outing.

Seeing both waterfalls from Kaleici

For a two-stop day, visit Upper Duden first while its confirmed admission window is comfortably open, then continue to the coast. Our sample drive between the falls was about 18 km. Do not treat the connection as a path that you can follow beside the river.

Arrange the transfer between parks in advance or leave enough flexibility to organise it after the first visit. A lunch break can fit between the walks without adding another cross-city journey. If you are travelling with children or someone who needs a slower pace, removing an extra shopping or sightseeing stop is often more useful than shortening the time at both waterfalls.

The old harbour and a waterfall boat trip

Kaleici’s harbour can be the starting point for some coastal trips, but a harbour excursion is a separate plan from travelling to the Lower Duden viewing park. Check the boat route with the provider. Not every short harbour cruise necessarily reaches the waterfall, and a meeting time is not the same as a departure time.

If a boat view is the main goal, ask for the named Lower Duden stop in the itinerary and check how the trip returns to the harbour. The Upper Duden cave is inland and is not reached by that boat. Keep the land visit and cruise as deliberate choices rather than assuming that one ticket or transfer covers both.

Make the return easy

Finish by thinking about where in the old town you want to return. The easiest vehicle drop-off may be on its edge, while your hotel or restaurant is a short walk inside. Keep enough water and phone battery for that final part of the day rather than using everything at the waterfall.

The practical advantage of starting in Kaleici is flexibility. You can make Duden the main outing or a single well-chosen stop within a city day. Choose the exact waterfall, organise an accessible departure point and leave the return straightforward. The experience then stays focused on the falls instead of the mechanics of crossing Antalya.
